We're getting schooled by groupies

So Google came in handy, even after slightly killing my vibe. Surprisingly, there isn't much about groupies. Also, I hope my mom doesn't check my search history for any reason.

Also, that wikihow tutorial on "How to Be a Groupie" in 8 steps was hilarious. Definitely worth my time.

I found this this article  in which a former groupie talks about her positive and negative experiences.

Here's a summary:

  • The sub headline: There shouldn't be so much stigma around women using their sexuality to get ahead in a music industry that is still rampantly sexist.
  • According to the writer, sexual experiences with the people who's music she admired, did not only alleviate the "grim reality of life", but was also an "almost spiritual experience". (???)
  • ^^It's a "very unique way of connecting with art"
  • The word "groupie" traditionally carried negative connotations. So much so that Penny Lane from Almost Famous derides another character who describes her as such. She says she's a "band aid".
  • Groupies are often seen as powerless women
  • Many of the stereotypes of boys in bands are often correct: they will have sex with you and then let you know that they are in a relationship, they will get up halfway through and play the same chord combinations over and over until they write their next hook
  • People often have bad experiences as groupies: bad chemistry, feeling of being used, being used as a coping mechanism after having broken up with a significant other.
  • One learns about the truths of the music industry by being a groupie, and how sexist it can be at times.

Also, according to some other sources, the idea of being a groupie nowadays is close to non-existent, which will be another frustration towards the main character. She's stuck in the rock era while everyone is out there listening to rap. The whole idea with sex is also different nowadays, as it was previously a more careless thing while nowadays teenagers are having less sex than ever before.

Aaaaaahh so many interesting tingz to learn. Being a groupie is an experience. Here's what shows up on Google images when you look up "groupies":

And this is another article I found. I really liked the way it was written, and it gives you some more info on the groupie thing.
